First you will need to know the difference between Primary and secondary effects of volcanoes

Primary effects are the direct result of an earthquake or volcanic eruption- pollution of the air from ash clouds 

Secondary effects are those that occur as the result of primary effects- homelessness from the destruction of homes and buildings from lava, pyroclastic flow
